In our WordPress Development daily activity we use some tools to help us to speed up the website building process. We thought that it could be useful to create a dedicated page, in it you will find all the software and plugins we use to build WordPress websites for our clients.

Any tools you see in this list is recommended by us simply because we use it and we find it very good for the job, you won't see anything in this list that we don't use.

When we discover another plugin or software that we like and deploy and that we believe can be useful for you it will be added in the Tools of The Trade Page As we find new plugins and other resources that prove to be reliable, we will add them to this page so it's probably a good idea to check back from time to time.

Most of the links below are affiliate links and if you do end up buying from our links, CiaoWeb will make a small commission. We think that this is a transparent way to recommend products... nothing to hide.

I was planning a redesign of my website since six months ago. I like the idea to refresh the look and feel of my site periodically let's say every two/three years.

After trying different WordPress themes I am back to my favourite: Genesis, it was the first WordPress theme I have used when I started doing web development few years ago, I have also used other themes quite interesting but still Genesis is my favourite.

I deploy it for any new web project, I am slowly becoming a specialist on developing  Genesis powered websites for my clients.

Why try to reinvent the wheel when you can simply use one the best WordPress theme framework around? It has a super clean code, it is fully responsive, it is SEO optimised and endorsed even by Yoast the creator of the best SEO plugin for WordPress. It load fast and Google loves fast loading sites.

I have to mention another set of plugins that I use nearly in every project: Toolset Plugins, if a client require custom post types for specific content I use especially the Types and Views plugins and they work fantastically well with Genesis. The blog page, all archives and custom post types in this site are built with Types and Views.

After discovering WordPress back in 2006 we were amazed on the incredible number of developers and designers who were contributing with new themes and plugins to his eco system. The Genesis StudioPress Framework was for us the  ideal tool to build websites for our clients since it provide beautiful designed themes out of the box, just few changes and you can customize it following the client needs.

In the mean time we have also looked around for more WordPress frameworks to add to our ToolBox and iThemes Builder came into play, another amazing solution for web developers, it allow a high grade of flexibility on building custom layouts, the possibility are endless with Builder, we were so impressed by this theme that has been our primary choice on our day by day work as WordPress Designers  until the middle of this year,..... then our love for Genesis has come back when the guys at StudioPress have released the 2.0 version.

Here is a list of the main improvments:

Our aim is to provide the state of the art WordPress solutions, the Genesis Framework is now the perfect choice, because of the HTML 5 support will make any site ready for the future and compatible with photo and videos technology. HTML5 introduces some new tag elements that will make the website content better-organized and semantically-accurate, allowing search engines to sort through and index more appropriately.

The schema.org microdata is very important for local SEO optimization,  all three major search engines, Google, Yahoo and Bing uses schema.org. Local sites that  have schema.org support on the source code will get a better SEO ranking, this is a crucially important factor for me since a good-looking website that is not also loved by search engines is useless.

CSS3 is the latest technology behind the "style" of any websites, having the chance to use it give more power to designers and developers.

Finally custom post type archives allow for more SEO optimisation, since we don't want Google to look only for the default WordPress content like posts and pages but also for any custom post type relevant to our client's business that is not the default one.

Welcome back Genesis!
